Co-op has unveiled a new ready-meal line in the UK designed specifically for shoppers with smaller appetites, as the use of weight loss medications such as GLP-1 drugs continues to rise.
The Good Fuel meal range, now rolling out across Co-op stores, features four mini-meal options developed to suit reduced portion needs while maintaining strong nutritional value. Each meal is rich in protein and fibre and contains at least two servings of vegetables, helping consumers meet daily dietary goals without overconsumption.
Priced at £3.50 per meal, the range is also positioned as a practical solution to food waste, offering carefully portioned servings that align with changing eating habits driven by medical weight loss treatments.
Nicole Tallant, Retail Trading Director at Co-op, said the launch reflects a shift in how customers approach health and nutrition. “Our members and customers are changing the way they approach health, looking for healthy and tasty choices that provide a boost of health benefits like protein and fibre, with meals that count towards their five-a-day while delivering plenty of flavour,” she said.
Tallant added that there is growing demand for meals that prioritise quality over quantity. “There is a real need to cater for smaller appetites with meals that deliver nutrition without excess. This new range is designed to support shoppers’ wellbeing in a meaningful, accessible and convenient way.”
The launch highlights several emerging trends in the food sector, including the rise of portion-controlled mini meals, increased demand for protein- and fibre-rich products, and a renewed focus on reducing food waste through smarter portioning.
Industry analysts note that the growing popularity of weight loss drugs is beginning to influence adjacent markets, prompting food retailers and manufacturers to adapt their offerings. As a result, innovation in functional foods and sustainable portion control is expected to accelerate as consumers seek meals that align with medically driven lifestyle changes.
