Missing Wisconsin

A 22-year-old woman from Wisconsin, Morgan Geyser, who nearly killed a classmate to please the horror character Slender Man, has cut off her GPS monitoring bracelet, left her group home, and is now missing, officials reported Sunday.

Geyser was last seen around 8 p.m. Saturday near Kroncke Drive with an adult acquaintance in Madison, but her location is unknown as of Sunday morning. Police released recent security footage showing her appearance.

Geyser was living in a group home after being released earlier this year from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute. She had spent seven years there following the attack. Three mental health experts testified that she showed progress before her release.

Geyser’s attorney said he does not know where she is. He urged her to turn herself in, saying, “If anyone has contact with Morgan or if Morgan sees this message, she should surrender. Running away is not in her best interest,” criminal defense lawyer Tony Cotton said in a social media video.

In 2014, when all were 12, Geyser and her friend Anissa Weier attacked Payton Leutner in a Waukesha park after a sleepover. Geyser stabbed Leutner 19 times while Weier encouraged her. They said they wanted to serve Slender Man and feared he would harm their families if they did not.

After the attack, the two girls tried to flee but were caught on Interstate 94. They told police they planned to find Slender Man’s mansion in northern Wisconsin.

Leutner survived the attack. In 2017, Geyser pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide but said she was mentally ill and not responsible. She was committed to a psychiatric hospital for 40 years by a court order.

Weier pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree intentional homicide, claiming mental illness as well. She was sentenced to 25 years in a mental hospital but was released in 2021 under conditions, including living with her father and wearing a GPS monitor.
