LTR Pharma is gaining attention with Spontan, the world’s first nasal spray for erectile dysfunction (ED), which offers faster onset and easy administration. Developed in collaboration with sexologist Melissa Hadley Barrett of the Restorative Health Clinic, this innovative drug aims to improve patient experience and address a widespread health issue.
Melissa Hadley Barrett highlighted the prevalence of ED: about 20% of men under 40, 33% in their 50s, 50% in their 60s, and up to 80% in older groups suffer from ED. She compares ED to joint replacements – a natural sign of aging often dismissed in male sexual health. Barrett also points to rising ED rates in younger men, attributed to performance anxiety linked to online pornography, challenging the misconception that ED is only an older man’s problem.
The clinic teamed with LTR Pharma to launch a telehealth platform called “Hard Made Easy,” focusing on accessible treatment. Spontan, a nasal spray formulation of vardenafil (the active ingredient in Levitra), delivers effects in 5-10 minutes, substantially faster than oral ED medications, which can take over an hour. This rapid absorption results from the drug entering the bloodstream directly through nasal membranes, avoiding digestive tract delays.
Although Spontan is not yet fully approved, it has been prescribed to 638 men under Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration special access scheme. Follow-up surveys showed 100% of patients achieved erections, and over half were able to have sex—a significant outcome given the typical 50% success rate of ED drugs. Side effects were minimal, mainly nasal irritation that lessened with use.
Experts advise combining Spontan use with lifestyle changes such as reducing alcohol, quitting smoking, and managing obesity to optimize results. Overall, about 80% of ED sufferers who seek treatment will see improvement.

A phase II trial focusing on men aged 65 and above is planned in Sydney, followed by a larger Phase III trial in the U.S. targeting market entry by mid-2026. The company also markets Roxus, a U.S. variant approved through a personalized healthcare pathway.
Spontan shows promising potential for disrupting the existing ED market dominated by oral PDE5 inhibitors like Viagra and Cialis, offering quicker action and improved patient convenience. Although priced higher than generics, convenience and rapid onset could appeal to many users.
