Columbia’s First Nazareth Baptist Church is hosting a crucial Men’s Health Forum this Saturday to raise awareness about prostate cancer among Black men. The event begins at 11 a.m. in the church’s main sanctuary, located at 2351 Gervais St.
Andre’ Melvin, PhD, a Greater Columbia Prostate Cancer Advocate, shared that the first 40 men over the age of 40 to attend will receive $25 gift cards.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to watch The Black Walnut, a documentary directed by prostate cancer survivor Terrance Afer-Anderson, which highlights the disproportionate impact of prostate cancer on African-American men. Afer-Anderson will moderate the forum.
In addition to the film, the event will feature PSA screenings, refreshments, and a local urologist and urology nurse practitioner available to answer health-related questions.
This forum offers a valuable chance for men in the community to learn about prevention, early detection, and support resources for prostate cancer.
