For the first time, Americans can receive their annual flu shot without leaving home.
AstraZeneca announced that FluMist, its nasal spray flu vaccine, is now available for at-home use through a program called FluMist Home.
Originally approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2003 for administration in clinics and pharmacies, FluMist became the first self-administered flu vaccine after expanded FDA approval last year.
The new service allows consumers to order the same nasal spray used in medical settings and have it shipped directly to their homes. FluMist Home will be available in 34 states during the 2025–2026 flu season.
Most commercial insurance plans cover the cost of the vaccine, though an $8.99 shipping and processing fee applies. Customers must provide personal information, medical history, insurance details, and payment when placing an order online.
FluMist is approved for individuals ages 2 to 49. The FDA advises that children ages 2 to 17 should receive the vaccine from a caregiver. The vaccine is not recommended for people with severe allergies to eggs, other flu vaccines, or any of its ingredients. Full safety and administration details are available on the product’s website.
Due to state pharmacy regulations, FluMist Home is not available nationwide. However, residents in the following states will have access this flu season: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
