A major recall is underway after more than 1,000 pounds of frozen ground beef were found to potentially contain metal fragments, according to a public health alert issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The frozen, fully cooked beef products were manufactured by Ada Valley Meat Company and distributed to food service providers and distributors across California, Delaware, Illinois, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) confirmed.
Packaged in 20-pound cardboard boxes, the recalled items were produced under the following lot codes:
- Lot Code 35156, packed on May 28, 2025
- Lot Code 35157, packed on May 30, 2025
The potential contamination came to light after a consumer reported finding metal pieces in the product. While no injuries or illnesses have been linked to the beef so far, FSIS has issued an urgent advisory urging institutional kitchens and distributors to check their inventories.
“There is concern that some of the product may still be frozen in freezers at food service locations,” FSIS stated. Facilities in possession of the affected lots are instructed to dispose of the product immediately or return it to the supplier.
